#152 La Ruse symétrique
At 4.30 he
brought
the clothes in
off the
line. A
nightdress
was missing;
so, too, his
mother. Weeks
later they
were found,
water-logged
& with a
symmetry
she never
had in life.

I've been sitting looking at this poem for some time now trying to think of something profound to say but I find I can't. I can tell you I like it but, in the same way as I can't explain why I like most of Magritte's work, I can't find the right words to explain it. The best I can say is that if Magritte had been a poet rather than an artist then this would be one of his.
